From 15 June to 15 July 2025, eight students from the Azerbaijani partner institutions, Baku State University and the Institute of Geography at the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, participated in a one-month academic and cultural exchange at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). The group included 3 PhD candidates, 3 Master’s, and 2 Bachelor’s students, who engaged in an intensive program of seminars, workshops, and collaborative research activities focusing on climate adaptation and sustainable geographical practices.
The exchange was part of the DAAD-funded project “Geographical Education and Research Innovation: Collaborative Climate Adaptation Strategies in Azerbaijan,” and aimed to strengthen academic ties, build intercultural competence, and foster mutual learning. In addition to academic engagement, students took part in cultural excursions and informal events designed to deepen their understanding of German academic life and society.
This visit not only enhanced the students’ methodological and thematic knowledge in the field of geography but also enriched their perspectives through interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue. Their active participation laid the groundwork for future collaboration between the next generation of geographers in Azerbaijan and Germany.
